The Union of Public Service Commission popularly knows as UPSC was accorded a constitutional status as an autonomous entity in the new constitution on 26th January 1950

The Union Service Public Commission (UPSC) has announced the result of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2009 held on May 17, 2009.

The successful candidates, whose names appear in the list, have qualified for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2009.

One of the major functions of the Commission is recruitment to services & posts under the Union through conduct of competitive examinations.

The Commission usually conducts a no of examinations every year on an all India basis, for direct recruitment in various fields, such as, Civil Services, Engineering, Medical and Forest Service, etc.
