Pranav Mistry and his SixthSense Technology

Pranav Mistry (28) an IIT graduate and research assistant with Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s – MIT Media Lab, has unveiled new technology SixthSense (or Sixth Sense) – a very intuitive and interactive interface to access internet. Pranav Mistry has demonstrated such interface at the TEDIndia conference taking place this week in Mysore, India.

The prototype of SixthSense uses a camera and projector brought together in a pendant that is worn around the neck. Here are some of things that he has demonstrated:

SixthSense hardware and software at present works with smartphones. The SixthSense turns walls, sheets of paper and other surfaces into screens which you can use to browse the internet. Some of examples are like camera converts gestures into commands like you can flick your thumb to take a picture.

The device can be made for just $350 using off-the-shelf components. The software made by Pranav Mistry and its source code will be available on an open-source model. Samsung has already shown interest in the device but when this product will be commercially available is yet to be seen.
