This is a great site where you can get all the details of the trains running in India. India has the second largest railway network in the world. To capture all the data of the trains running in this extensive network and make it available on the net is not an easy task. If your ticket is wait listed and you would like to know the present status of your reservation, you can get it through this site in a jiffy. I always use this site to know the reservation availability in a particular train for me or for my family members and also the PNR Status of the tickets from time to time. Not only can you know the details of availability of a train for a particular date, but also information on the fares by various classes of train. You can also have access to arrival and departure times of the trains at each station on a particular route, rules relating to cancellation of journey /refunds, postponement of reservation, break journey, circular journey, concessional tickets, facilities available for international tourists, details of Tatkal Scheme and other special schemes etc. they also have the entire railway time table (trains at a glance) on this website.

You can also do the ticket booking through internet with the help of credit card using this site. But they don’t have the system of taking your own print out unlike the airlines. They will send the ticket by courier at your given address.

I only remember the travails my friends and I used to undergo when we were students to book train tickets when this facility was not available. We used to stand for hours together at the railway counters even to know whether reservation is available on a particular train. Actual ticket booking was like a night mare.
